Redefining the treat
Every Halloween we are undoubtedly bombarded with candy… At the check-out aisle, at the gas station, at the grocery store, at the pizza shop, and certainly… at your kids’ requests. Halloween and candy go hand in hand, and while we may not be able to completely escape the sugar trap, we can redefine the holiday and put our focus back on the FUN!
Now to talk about the elephant in the room…. Candy. I’m not against candy per se, but I am against the amount that is shared and the overflow that sticks in one’s home till after Christmas. This is the biggest pitfall for weight gain over the holidays – if the candy is around us, then we are more tempted to eat it. That is a fact.
Candy is loaded with sugar, additives and artificial ingredients. For example: Each serving of Skittles contains a whopping 45 grams of sugar—that’s around 11 teaspoons of pure sugar. Is this what we want to feed our families?
Ever since my son was born, I stopped giving out the traditional Halloween candy and created new types of treats that were a huge hit with the kids. You don’t believe me? I can’t blame you since my own husband was fearful that our house would be egged because of it. But the kids really did love it. So this year, I ask you to join me in focusing on what makes Halloween so great …It’s time to make Halloween all about FUN.
